Whilst the studio album is fine the five star rating is for the live album from the famed Aragon Ballroom. I own plenty of excellent Harry James and find it so strange that despite the quality of so many of those albums and his large record sales he still seems under rated as a jazz performer.Of all the live James albums I have this is unquestionably my favourite and despite the absence of many star names, I've not heard a James album swing so strongly, the bassist and the excellent Jackie Mills on drums. Much as I liked Buddy Rich, Jackie Mills (later producer of Janice Joplin) does not over dominate the but really propels the band forward. James himself produces some of his finest jazz solos, particularly on 'There They Go' to me the stand out track, followed closely by 'Ultra' and 'Mam Bongo'.A strong recommendation to buy and album that gives the feel to those of us too young to know, what it was like to hear one of the great bands at the top of its swinging form in the early 50's.
