Previous page Next page What type of wire should I use with my low-voltage lighting? Choose the correct wire gauge based on the transformer’s wattage. Using the wrong wire gauge can lead to RISK OF FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCK. 12AWG, 14AWG, 16AWG, or 18AWG wire are recommended as the main power cord. What do I need to prepare before installing my lights? Prepare a 120V to 12-24V transformer (not included), a main power cord (not included), wire caps(included) or cable connectors (optional, not included), and fixtures. Ensure the total power of fixtures does not exceed 80% of the transformer’s rating. How do I use cable connectors to install the fixtures? If using cable connectors (not included), connect the lamp wires to the cable connectors, then attach the cable connectors to the main power cord. No need to strip insulation from the main power cord. How should I install the fixtures into the ground? Before placing the fixture into the ground, use a shovel to loosen the soil or soften it with water. DO NOT use a hammer, and avoid pushing the fixture with your weight. For shorter distances, roll up and bury any excess wire.

Most important, these lights are built nice and sturdy especially the stakes--they are an alloy, not plastic. The install was simple and they look modern during the daytime and supply very good path lighting. I chose the warm version (3k), and for 3W of energy, they supply plenty of light in a low profile focus. The fixtures are sealed, so there is no chance of exposure to the elements will invade the internal components. That said, there is no ability to replace a diode if it fails. I suggest getting a few more than is needed so future replacements will be the same as what is installed. These require a transformer to work so don't think these will work as is out of the box.
